Weird Shit

I’ve been in music mode the last few days. It’s been calling me, but I just haven’t been able to crack it, until today. I can’t even describe the weird shit I’ve been cooking up. It’s dancehall meets polka meets found audio meets a circus. It’s mostly just sounds at this point. Not quite music. Not quite not. I’m throwing every random sample or recording I’ve collected for the last 10 years and seeing what sticks. The best part is I’m dancing to it.

This last track felt like i was trying to match the bpm of my tremors so I can stand still and dance to the beat.

I rapped in high school. Mostly to make fun of the rappers in high school. But I initially started making beats when I moved to DC. I was making a lot of dance videos back then, mostly to connect to my friends back home in Omaha.

All of this was pre TikTok so uploading videos with copyrighted music was always a risk. I made one video to Dada Life’s Born to Rage. Right before the drop was the line “USA, You Were Born to Rage!” What better backdrop than all of the monuments in DC. It was online for a few weeks before it got flagged. They didn’t just block it, they destroyed the video too.

I knew I had to make my own music so I could ensure it wouldn’t get taken down again. I didn’t have any equipment or any talent really. But I made a lot of songs. And you know what? You couldn’t dance to any one of them. I used the songs for experimental videos and documentaries no one watched.

And that’s probably what will come from this music too. Weird shit no one will watch or listen to. But that’s my sound. And I’m proud of it.
